Our Approach
At Restorative Roots, our therapists implement a holistic and integrative approach to therapy, drawing from various evidence-based therapeutic modalities to create a collaborative process that will fit your unique needs and target areas of growth that are important to help you reach your goals. Our therapists are committed to providing supportive, compassionate, trauma-informed care to support you in your healing and growth, and to help reconnect you to your authentic self.
How Do I Get Started?
1. Reaching Out & Consultation:
You’ve taken the first step on your therapy journey (which can sometimes be the hardest part!). After connecting, we will schedule a free 15-minute consultation with one of our therapists to discuss your needs, get to know each other, and ensure it feels like the right fit for you.
2. Initial Session:
In your first 60-minute session, your therapist will learn more about your background, present challenges and concerns, and your therapy goals. It’s okay if you’re unsure about your goals—we’ll explore them together and adjust as we move forward based on your needs.
3. The Therapy Process:
As you progress, session frequency can be adjusted to fit your needs and schedule. Healing isn't linear, so your therapist will regularly check in to ensure therapy aligns with your goals. We believe that therapy should not be something that is “done to you” - you have agency in this process and therapy will be tailored to you and your individual needs, experiences, and goals.
4. Next Steps:
Feeling nervous before starting therapy is normal. All it takes is some willingness and curiosity in exploring you and your story. If you’re ready to begin or have questions about the process, feel free to reach out to us.

Eating disorders involve a range of challenges related to disturbances in one’s eating behaviours and distorted perceptions of food and body image. You may be facing challenges with your relationship to food, such as being overly focused on food and eating habits, using food to manage emotions, setting strict rules around food and eating, experiencing shame and guilt related to food, or engaging in behaviours like restricting, binging, purging, over-exercising, and/or preoccupation with body shape and weight. The symptoms you experience around food and your body may also overlap and fluctuate over time and can lead to significant emotional and psychological distress. You may be experiencing disordered eating if your relationship with food interferes with your daily life and keeps you from fully enjoying life or moving forward.
At Restorative Roots, our therapists have extensive experience and expertise in working with individuals struggling with disordered eating. Our therapeutic approach goes beyond addressing just the symptoms to explore the underlying factors and roots that lead to the development and maintenance of an eating disorder. We offer a supportive, non-judgmental space where you can explore the full picture of your experience, including the emotional, psychological, and social factors that may be affecting your relationship with food. You don’t need a formal diagnosis to seek treatment - if the way you eat and/or think about food is affecting your quality of life, you deserve support.
At Restorative Roots, we truly believe that full recovery and freedom from an eating disorder is possible. We are committed to helping you heal by addressing the root factors contributing to disordered eating, developing healthier coping strategies to regulate emotions and fulfill unmet needs, nurturing self-worth, rebuilding trust in your body and self, fostering a balanced and intuitive relationship with food, and reconnecting with your true, authentic self. We will start with where you’re at, working with you to reconnect back to yourself and to find meaning and purpose in your life that feels fulfilling to you.
No step is too small to start moving toward recovery and a life free from an eating disorder. Taking the first step is really brave, and we welcome you to reach out to connect with one of our therapists for a 15-minute consultation or email us for more information.

Our bodies are the vessels that allow us to live our lives; however, sometimes we can feel disconnected from them, feel shame about our appearance, or come to believe that there is something “wrong” with or “bad” about the physical body we are in. Body image concerns often involve persistent negative thoughts and feelings about one's appearance, which can lead to low self-esteem and self-worth, disordered eating, attempts to alter or hide one’s body, and/or an unhealthy relationship with the body. Negative body image can also lead to an interference with one’s ability to function and fully enjoy life, contributing to social isolation, low mood, anxiety, and feelings of shame.
At Restorative Roots Therapy, we provide a safe and non-judgmental space to explore the underlying roots of your body image concerns, which may stem from societal pressures, trauma, family and peer group influences, cultural factors, and/or personal experiences. Our therapists take an integrative and holistic approach to help you understand the origins of harmful beliefs about your body, foster self-compassion, separate your sense of identity from your physical appearance, and develop body acceptance, while working toward a healthy and more peaceful relationship with your body.
Together, we’ll work to help you embrace body neutrality, come back to your body as your home, and cultivate a sense of value and acceptance from within. We’ll explore what a healthy relationship with your body means for you and work to heal the deeper wounds that contribute to feelings of shame, hatred, or disgust.
You deserve to feel comfortable in your own skin and to build a sense of worth from within. If you’re struggling with negative feelings or beliefs about your body, we invite you to reach out for a 15-minute consultation or contact us via email for more information.

At Restorative Roots Therapy, we understand that your sense of self-worth and self-esteem both play a critical role in how you feel about and see yourself, as well as how you navigate the world. Self-worth encompasses the fundamental belief in your inherent value as a person, while self-esteem reflects how much you appreciate and accept yourself, often shaped by external factors like achievements, relationships, and the feedback you receive from others. Both are essential to our well-being; as self-worth provides the foundation for an inner sense of confidence, self-acceptance, and emotional resilience, while self-esteem influences how you evaluate your own abilities and qualities, how you feel about yourself based on these evaluations, and how you interact with others and respond to life’s challenges. When you struggle with low self-worth or self-esteem, it can leave you feeling inadequate, unworthy, or overly critical of yourself, which can affect your mental health, relationships, and overall well-being.
Our therapists take a comprehensive approach to help you address challenges associated with low self-worth and/or self-esteem. Together, we'll explore the emotional, psychological, societal, and experiential factors contributing to your feelings of low self-worth or self-esteem. In therapy, you'll be supported in challenging negative self-perceptions, developing self-compassion, and building a stronger, more resilient sense of self. By addressing both the deeper roots and external influences on your self-worth, we empower you to reconnect with your inherent value, fostering lasting self-confidence and emotional well-being.
If you’re looking to rebuild your sense of self-worth from within, increase your self confidence and trust in yourself, or improve how you view and feel about yourself, please visit our online booking site or email us to book a consult or appointment with one our therapists.

Anxiety can be a natural response to stress, but when it becomes overwhelming or constant, it can interfere with daily life. If you struggle with anxiety, you may experience symptoms like excessive worry, rumination (repetitive negative thoughts often about past mistakes, worries, or distressing feelings), restlessness, a sense of panic or impending doom, or difficulty concentrating. If you are experiencing anxiety you may also experience difficulty sleeping, challenges in social situations, avoidance behaviours around anxiety triggers, and/or physical symptoms (such as racing heart, sweating, feeling restless, or gastrointestinal issues).
At Restorative Roots, our therapists offer a supportive space to work with you to explore the root factors that contribute to the development and maintenance of anxiety, examine underlying ingrained beliefs that may be fuelling anxiety, learn ways to connect to the present moment, and develop new ways of coping with distress. Through a holistic lens, we use evidence-based therapeutic approaches to help you learn to identify, reframe, and challenge anxious thoughts, heal underlying wounds that may be impacting anxiety, and ultimately regain control over your life. If anxiety is interfering with your ability to fully enjoy and live your life, please know that things can change. Reach out to connect with one of our therapists to start better understanding your anxiety, find relief from it, and build resilience for long-term well-being.
